Hi, I’m Leah.
My Top 3
The values that guide my practice
☮︎
Trust
Trust is the foundation of the therapeutic relationship. I can promise authenticity, empowerment, and respect as we build this foundation together. I believe that your story should be shared with those who have earned the right to hear it, myself included.
☺︎
Acceptance
My priority is to offer a space where you feel understood and seen for the person you are right now. This doesn’t mean that I won’t challenge you to grow and adapt at times, but my hope is that you will also know you are held and fully accepted just as you are.
☯︎
Collaboration
Therapy in my practice is collaborative, and accountability is shared. I will consistently ask for clarification and always seek to understand you better, but my hope is that you provide feedback and let me know when you feel there’s a disconnect between us.
I named my practice Held + Free Psychotherapy because I know the healing that comes from having the space to explore, grow, and understand new parts of yourself, while also being held and accepted for exactly who you are right now. My priority is to hold that space for you and offer an accepting and authentic environment for growth and healing. My hope is that you will learn to hold that space for yourself as well. I believe that a therapeutic relationship based on trust and collaboration is the foundation of this work, and I will always meet you where you are.
I specialize in relationship issues, life transitions, emotion regulation, anxiety, depression, identity formation, and self-esteem. I believe it’s important to make sense of where you’ve come from to find clarity in where you want to go. By identifying the history behind certain patterns that are showing up in your life, and in your relationships, you can begin to shift these patterns and start living the life you want.
I’m an active therapist, providing feedback and proposing additional ways of viewing issues that come up in session. My approach is psychodynamic and relational, as I believe we are shaped by our social world and relationships. I readily engage with any topic and incorporate humor when appropriate.
Prior to my career as a mental health counselor, I worked as a marketing writer, high school journalism and graphic design teacher, and instructional designer/software trainer. Each of these roles provided new perspectives and understanding of others, and myself, and continue to shape the way I adapt and relate as a therapist.
